The Lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1 in Lagos State House of Assembly Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Okanlawon has assured the constituents of the area that the Lagos State Government and Lagos State house of Assembly would continue to bring governance closer to the people in order to make life meaningful and abundant to them through provision of key infrastructural facilities in the face of subsisting socio-political and economic challenges.
Hon. Okanlawon gave the assurance yesterday at the Annual Lagos State House of Assembly constituency stakeholders’ meeting held at Mende Town Hall, Mende Maryland in Kosofe Local Government Area where he also doled out food palliatives to over 150 vulnerable people and empowered widows, physically challenged and petty traders numbering 100 with 25,000 Naira cash each for micro Business Support.
At the constituency stakeholders meeting themed POST COVID-19 PANDEMIC: THE CHALLENGES AND THE PROSPECTS held simultaneously in all the constituencies in the state, Hon. Okanlawon in an interview with our media outfit explained that the main idea behind the organisation of the Stakeholders’ meeting was to interface and engage the constituents in meaningful productive discourse for policy formulation and implementation.
He averred that some of the requests garnered from the constituents would be factored into next year’s budget for implementation even though the state is presently confronted with the burden of reconstructing damaged public properties running into trillions of naira occasioned by #EndSars mayhem unleashed by hoodlums.
And while noting the negative impact the reconstruction works would have on execution of future projects, Hon. Okanlawon disclosed that the Lagos Government has already commenced palliatives work on Oworo road and rehabilitation of Diya street is about to commence.
He also stated that Arowojobe link bridge, Yetunde Brown street and some other roads at Soluyi, Ojota and Ogudu which are under construction are about to be completed.
Earlier, in his keynote address to the stakeholders which comprised of Royal Fathers, Artisans, Market Leaders, Religious Leaders, CDC/CDA chairmen and Political Leaders, Okla has he is fondly called, praised the constituents for their resilience in the face of economic challenges brought about by the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The former Special Adviser on Food Security recalled that the first case of the pandemic was recorded in the state on February 27, 2020 and that the House immediately met, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his team for their prompt response in addressing the outbreak.
"The House approved the sum of N20 billion COVID-19 Intervention Fund aimed at containing and managing the spread of the virus in the State as well as mitigate its effect on Lagosians.

"This legislative support, coupled with individual palliative efforts of honourable members in their various constituencies has had a great impact on the successes recorded so far in the fight to effectively contain the ravaging disease.
"The economic headwind generated by the COVID-19 pandemic also necessitated the approval of the House for the reordering of the Y2020 budget to provide necessary support for business owners, the vulnerable members of the society and improvement in healthcare facilities”, Hon. Sanni Okanlawon stated.
The lawmaker further noted that prior to the reopening of schools, a committee of the House went round schools to be sure of their preparedness.

He also revealed how the Lagos Assembly made moves to ease the recent #EndSARS protest in the state that later resulted a carnage.
He recalled how he and other members of the House met with the protesters at 12 midnight on October 8, and "immediately convened an emergency session to consider their demands."

It could be recalled that the House, during the sitting, came up with demands to President Muhammadu Buhari, who promptly adopted almost all the resolutions.
He however lamented that all efforts by the state and federal governments were thwarted by suspected criminals who hijacked the protests to cause mayhem and attack public and private investments and interests.
During question and answer session the CDC Chairman Kosofe Local Government Area, Hon. Segun Babatunde while praising Hon. Okanlawon for facilitating many infrastructural projects to the constituency, informed that palliative works on Oworo Road had stopped.
While Mr. N.A Oloyede called for proper implementation of public policies. He also stated that government must come up with good programme that would encourage citizens to pay tax.

Mr. S.A Adeaga appealed for the revisit of Mende and Anthony market projects which has been abandoned.
Mr. Eniayewu from Ward C reported incidents of daylight robbery in the area and appealed to Government to beef up security by drafting police back to the affected area.
Mr. Adenaike Murphy from ward C called for the provision of boreholes at Ifako and also complained of drainage problem at Forolagba st. caused by road construction at Ganiat Daudu street.

Baale Odunfa from Oworo complained of drainage problem and poor state of roads at Oworo.
The Stakeholders’ meeting was graced by APC Lagos East Senatorial District Leader, Otunba Busira Alebiosu; GAC member, Prince Muyiwa Sosanya and Kosofe Local Government Chairman Hon. Afolabi Sofola.

Prince Muyiwa Sosanya in his welcome address appealed to members to adhere strictly to covid-19 preventive guidelines stressing that the pandemic is still very much around while praising Hon. Okanlawon for providing quality representation.

Similarly, Otunba Busira Alebiosu in his short address praised Hon. Okanlawon for his hardwork and various infrastructural projects he has facilitated to the constituency since he assumed office.
