dumping of refuse into drainages...
... enjoins Kosofe residents to embrace the spirits of a clean environment...
The Executive Chairman, Kosofe Local Government, Barrister Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe has appealed to all the residents of Kosofe Local Government to see cleanliness as next to Godliness by jettisoning acts capable of desecrating the environment, saying they should make it spick and span.
The Executive Chairman who was represented by his Vice, Hon. Oluwole Sosanya made this remark at the get-together of stakeholders on solid waste management on Thursday.
He explained that Kosofe as one of the clean Councils in Lagos State had pledged to chart and maintain a clean and sustainable environment, adding that circumstances have created a need for change in solid waste management strategy and responsibility.
The Council Chairman said further that waste production is increasing and is compounded by the cycle of poverty, unchecked population growth, receding standard of living, poor governance and the low level of environmental awareness in developing countries especially Nigeria.
Ogunlewe counselled the community on the need to embrace a strong participatory, contextual, integrated, complex but highly adaptive solid waste management strategy if undiluted progress is to be made.
He appealed to all the residents to shun indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the canal
The LAWMA District 2 head, Mrs.Tawa Oyekanmi in her remark lauded Kosofe for a remarkable state of its environment. She said what she had seen in kosofe in terms of cleanliness was highly commendable and scored the Council 70 %.
She advised the Council must not relent in its efforts to ensure that a clean environment is maintained and sustained.
She appealed to all the market leaders at the meeting to keep the markets clean always.
She advised them to always give their solid waste to LAWMA operators instead of illegal truckmen.
