TRAINING: WHEN YOU DESECRATE THE SPIRIT OF GRAMMAR, YOU KILL THE FIDELITY OF INFORMATION - ACE BROADCASTER, SEGUN AKIOYA
The members of Chief Press Secretaries (CPS), have been told not to desecrate the spirit of grammar, in order not to kill the fidelity of information.
This was one of the major highlights by ace broadcaster and teacher, Segun Akioya, during a training session at the 3 day annual media retreat, organized by the grassroots media aides recently.
Mr. Akioya, who spoke on the topic: 'Free and fair election; the roles of grassroots media,' opined that grassroots politics is incomplete without identifying the critical roles of chief press secretaries across the various local governments and local council development areas in Lagos State.
Speaking further, Mr. Akioya centred his teaching on the qualities of CPS as a group, which among many, was to enhance public communication skills.
"If you are engaged in public communication as a CPS in the grassroots, you need to enhance your communication skills." He noted.
The speech comportment teacher Akioya, added that in order for CPS to reflect civility, bring about accurate information and exhibit professionalism in their job task, they must be trained constantly.
"Even if you were given the position on a platter, now that you are there, upgrade yourself, update yourself and don't be stagnant," he said.
He decried the speech comportment and grammar of some media aides, adding that "some of them cannot manage their grammar."
In his words: "When you desecrate the spirit of grammar, you kill the fidelity of information."
He added that public respect may elude a CPS when such a grassroots media aide was unable to elicit professionalism in his job task at a public phora.
Mr. Segun Akioya urged members of CPS to update themselves by enrolling for short courses in broadcasting and news writing, as well as upgrade their knowledge of public relations in recognized institutions.
This, according to him will enhance their role as the face of a local government in the grassroots.
